The Los Angeles Clippers have claimed for Miami Heat forward Rodney McGruder off waivers, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Watch Stadium.

The Heat waived McGruder on April 7. He appeared in 66 games with Miami.

The Clippers recently waived Luc Mbah a Moute. McGruder, however, isn't eligible to play in the postseason.

McGruder averaged 7.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game for the Heat. He shot 40.3 percent from the field, 35.1 percent from beyond the arc and 72.2 percent from the free-throw line.

The Clippers are playing in the postseason this year after missing it in 2017-18. They enter Tuesday with a record of 47-34. They are in the eighth spot in the Western Conference standings.

The Clippers play their final game of the season on Wednesday when they host the Utah Jazz. Why the team decided to claim McGruder off waivers is unknown, especially since he can't play in the postseason. Jerry West and Doc Rivers, though, must have a plan with him.

This season was the first time since 2011 Los Angeles didn't have Chris Paul, DeAndre Jordan or Blake Griffin on the roster. There's no All-Stars on this roster and yet they made the playoffs in the rugged Western Conference. It points to how good of a coach Rivers is.
