News of a COVID-19 outbreak hitting the Phoenix Suns at the end of their series against the Dallas Mavericks just broke from The Athletic, which also highlighted other high-profile cases during these 2022 NBA Playoffs. If you somehow forgot, Paul George missed the Los Angeles Clippers' play-in game against the New Orleans Pelicans, which the Clippers lost to end their season after they had lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves the game before.

Losing George for that contest was brutal, but apparently so was his bout with COVID-19. Per the reporting of Sam Amick and Joe Vardon at The Athletic, George “was fucked up” from the virus. He was experiencing moderate to severe symptoms when he tested positive before the game. It was an unfortunately fitting end to a season marred by injuries and health woes for LA.

In addition to George missing that crucial game, the Chicago Bulls didn't have Zach LaVine in their season-ending loss to the Milwaukee Bucks in the first round because of a positive test. Boston Celtics veteran Al Horford missed Game 1 against the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals. Then there's Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, who missed a pair of games against the Memphis Grizzlies in the second round.

COVID-19 has also hit the NBA Finals, with play-by-play man Mike Breen missing the first two games of the series and Jeff Van Gundy missing Game 1.

This entire situation, plus COVID-19 sticking around, has people questioning testing protocols and how to deal with the virus moving forward. It's something the NBA will have to figure out.
