The L.A. Clippers plan to pen guard/forward C.J. Williams to a three-year contract, upgrading his previous one, after he was signed as a two-way player earlier in the season, according to Shams Charania of The Vertical.

Sources: The Clippers and forward C.J. Williams are finalizing a three-year deal, elevating Williams from a two-way deal. Williams has served as a reliable starter and reserve for L.A. this season.

Williams will become one of many G Leaguers that has been rewarded with a full-fledged NBA contract, after becoming a key part of the rotation as a starter and a player off the bench in light of the wave of injuries the team has sustained.

His averages of 5.3 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game won't say much, but he's proven capable of being a double-digit scorer when given ample playing time, putting up a career-high 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting against the Memphis Grizzlies on Jan. 2.

The 28-year-old Williams initially went undrafted in the 2012 NBA Draft and spent time playing overseas in the French and Italian leagues, as well as passing through multiple D League teams — finally earning his shot after reeling in a gold medal this past summer in the AmeriCup with the 2017 National Team under coach Jeff Van Gundy.
