New Coldplay is coming, and the title and release date have just been confirmed.

Their 10th studio album, Moon Music, arrives on October 4. Unfortunately, this could be the band’s last album, as singer Chris Martin stated that the band would stop making music next year. RollingStone stated that Martin said in a 2021 interview with Jo Wiley, “Well, I know I can tell you: our last proper record will come out in 2025, and after that, I think we will only tour.

However, in the meantime, there’s new material to get excited about.

Coldplay announces new music on Instagram

To celebrate the accountment of the new album, the band put out an Instagram post that included their new single, feelslikeimfallinginlove. It shows the band in a room together. Martin is holding a record with text over it saying, “The LP is made out of 100% recycled bottles.”

The post’s caption reads: “Moon Music. The new album, landing October 4. Limited signed editions available.”

Regarding their ecologically sustainable record release process, The Guardian reports that each 140g vinyl copy of Moon Music will be manufactured from nine plastic bottles retrieved from consumer waste. The Ocean Cleanup from Rio Las Vacas, Guatemala, will provide 70% of the intercepted plastic for a special “notebook edition” of the LP. This plastic was prevented from entering the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Honduras.

According to the band, they will reduce carbon emissions by 85% compared to 140g vinyl production. Plus, it will prevent the manufacture of 25 tonnes of virgin plastic. Beyond that, their CD copies will be produced from 90% recycled plastic, which makes for a 78% reduction in emissions compared to a traditionally manufactured CD.

It’s great the band is taking an environmentally friendly approach to their music. They are part of a growing trend amongst music artists, including Billie Eilish, who used recycled vinyl for her newest album, Hit Me Hard and Soft.

Billboard reports that the first edition of Moon Music will be available in limited-edition, individually numbered runs. Also, it was produced at a “higher specification” than future cuts.

This newest album is a continuation of Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres. The prior 2021 album, produced by Max Martin, opened at Number One in the U.K. and Australia and Number Four on the Billboard 200.

In 2023, Martin told the Toronto City News that Moon Music was nearing completion. At that time, it didn’t have a name. However, this indicates that they wrapped up the songs for this newest LP a while back.

Coldplay is still on tour to support Spheres. They started in Costa Rica on March 18, 2022, and will wrap up in New Zealand on November 16.

So, get ready for Moon Music on October 4. And know that purchasing their vinyl or CD does not harm the environment.
