Why The Army Black Knights Could Cover The Spread

The Black Knights are 3-3 against the spread this season and have gone under the scoring total in three of their six games.

Army is extremely one-dimensional when it comes to their offensive repertoire. They have thrown only 39 passes all season and rank second to last in passing yards per game with just 72.5. However,  they are second in college football in rushing yards per game with 295 and are extremely effective in the triple-option.

This discrepancy works reasonably well in terms of putting points up on the board—the Black Knights average 36 points per outing.

Given their impressive running game, Army speeds up the game and does not allow teams to get in a rhythm. As a result, Army is giving up just 20.7 points per game.

Why The Wake Forest Deacons Could Cover The Spread

The Deacons are 2-4 against the spread this season and have hit the over in two of their six games as well.

Wake Forest has been impressive throughout the first half of the season. They are one of the six Power Five schools to be undefeated.

Offensively, the Deacons are putting up 38.2 points per game, which is the 11th best in all of college football, and unlike Army, they can beat teams with the run or the pass. Wake Forest is producing 173  yards on the ground in each competition and 274.2 yards in the air.

Defensively, the Deacons give up 22.4 points per game. However, they do give up a decent amount of yards per game with 426.2. The biggest thing that separates this team from the pack is their discipline. The Deacons have the second-highest ranking in turnover margin per game (+1.6) this season and average only five penalties per outing.

Final Wake Forest-Army Prediction & Pick

This line opened at -3 and has now been moved up to -3.5. However, that still seems to be too low for a Wake Forest team that is first in the ACC and is coming off a bye. The fact you can get this line at a plus number is incredibly valuable.

Army has looked solid for the first portion of the season, but if Wake Forrest can work to eliminate their run success, Dave Clawson and his side should not have any issue.

FINAL WAKE FOREST-ARMY PREDICTION & PICK: Wake Forest -3.5 (+104)
