The Indianapolis Colts got their guy. Indy made it clear all offseason that getting a number two receiver was their top priority, and they went and signed Devin Funchess away from the Panthers when free agency opened. The Colts and head coach Frank Reich have raved about Funchess, saying he was their top target the entire way.

Now the team is focused on having him develop some chemistry with quarterback Andrew Luck, per Joel A Erickson of the Indianapolis Star.

“I knew I had to come in with my new quarterback and had to build that relationship with him,” Funchess said. “That’s my main goal.”

“He’s got to see how I run, I’ve got to see where the angles are coming at when he throws the ball, and then personally, just see what type of guy he is, see what type of guy I am,” Funchess explained. “You’ve got to know the person and trust the person.”

Reich echoed a similar sentiment.

“I’ve gotten a good idea what he can do and what he likes to do from watching the tape. I just think it’ll be a fresh start for him, so I think the consistency of all the route running, all the little adjustments and nuances to zone coverage (are important),” he said. “And then, really, the big part, right, he can work on now: developing chemistry with Andrew, and that’ll be huge.”

The Colts have one of the league's better receivers in T.Y. Hilton but haven't had much behind him. Last year, they rotated a cast of complete unknowns behind Hilton, which wasn't cutting it. Defenses were honing in on Hilton, and Luck had no other consistent receivers to turn to.

Hilton is also a smaller receiver, so Funchess' size and large frame will be a nice compliment to him. With Hilton and Funchess together and Eric Ebron at tight end, the Colts have a dangerous group off pass-catchers.
