The Washington Commanders made a huge trade on Wednesday to bring Carson Wentz to town. Already, that deal is impacting the future of other players in the nation's capital. According to Ian Rapoport, the Commanders and veteran safety Landon Collins failed to agree to terms on a restructured contract, prompting the team to release the 28-year-old.

After absorbing the contract of Wentz via their trade with the Indianapolis Colts, the Commanders needed to make some moves to save some money. After approaching Collins regarding a restructured deal, the two sides failed to find mutual ground, putting an early end to his stay in D.C.

Collins is set to hit free agency once again after having signed a six-year, $84 million deal with Washington back in 2019. NFL insider Josina Anderson reports that she spoke with the DB, who explained his side of things. Anderson reports that Collins told her he had initially agreed to a restructured deal with the Commanders, before they came back with another approach to make additional changes to his deal.

The 28-year-old revealed he'd be taking a pay cut in his new deal with the Commanders, something he had agreed to. However, when they requested he take another pay cut, Collins opted for free agency.

Since signing his lucrative deal in Washington a few years back, Collins hasn't lived up to expectations. During his tenure with the Commanders, Collins has featured in 35 games, recording 3 interceptions, 7 pass breakups, and 239 tackles. His production is way down from the numbers he put up with the New York Giants throughout the first four seasons of his career, and now he'll look to get another chance with a new organization on the open market.
