Cowboys WR Amari Cooper considered ‘day-to day’ after thigh injury

Amari Cooper

Breathe easy, Dallas Cowboys fans — Amari Cooper’s injury is not that serious.

Although the Cowboys’ No. 1 wide receiver exited the first quarter without returning during the team’s loss to the New York Jets on Sunday, his thigh contusion injury is considered “day-to-day” as stated by head coach Jason Garrett, via Jon Machota of The Athletic.

The Cowboys drastically struggled in the absence of their top wideout as it took a late comeback just for the team to fall short in their 24-22 loss to the Jets. It was the Cowboys’ third straight loss after starting out the season 3-0.

Although falling to the previously winless Jets has to be a low point for the Cowboys, there is some good news — Cooper’s injury may be a painful one, but there is no structural damage. In other words, it’s not a long-term injury, as reported by the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

“#Cowboys WR Amari Cooper was diagnosed yesterday with a thigh bruise, source said, which can be horribly painful and knocked him out of the loss to the #Jets. At the least, though, there is no indication of long-term damage,” Rapoport tweeted.

As the Cowboys prepare for a big divisional matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 7 before hitting their bye week in Week 8, they won’t have to worry about Cooper being sidelined.

“My understanding is nothing structural here, so it should not be a long-term injury, but it is extremely, extremely painful,” Rapoport said Monday on Good Morning Football, via NJ.com. “Amari Cooper was in a lot of discomfort yesterday. We’ll see about his status this week, but this did not seem like something they’ll need to worry about for several weeks.”

Considering the Cowboys mustered just 6.6 yards per pass play without their star receiver — the Jets had 9.6 by comparison — Dallas is definitely breathing a sigh of relief as they look to maintain supremacy in the NFC East against Philadelphia.
