Leighton Vander Esch was able to suit up for the Dallas Cowboys in the past two weeks, but there seems to be an issue with his previous injury. According to Michael Gehlken, concerns have surfaced with Vander Esch's neck and back injury.

Back in Week 7, Vander Esch suffered a neck and back injury that caused him to exit the game early. At first, there was hope that the athletic linebacker would be able to make his return after the team's bye week in Week 8.

Instead, Dallas decided to hold Vander Esch out in Week 9 against the New York Giants. Fortunately, he was able to return and play in Weeks 10 and 11 for the Cowboys.

While it was a positive sign to see him back in uniform, it appears as if Vander Esch reaggravated his previous injury to a certain extent. As a result, Vander Esch underwent an MRI on his neck and back.

At this moment, Vander Esch isn't expected to suit up for the Cowboys versus the New England Patriots on Sunday. Therefore, veteran Sean Lee will likely draw another start alongside Jaylon Smith at linebacker.

This season, Leighton Vander Esch has contributed 72 tackles, a forced fumble, and three deflections in nine starts. Without him in the defense, the Cowboys are definitely a bit worse on defense.

Despite his absence, it's better that the Cowboys have an experienced player like Lee to step in when needed. Leighton Vander Esch is expected to be inactive in Week 12 but they are hoping his current injury isn't a long-term issue.
