The Dallas Cowboys used their franchise tag on Dak Prescott earlier this offseason and both sides have been working on a long-term deal. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Prescott is officially signing his franchise tag by Monday.

When the Cowboys tagged Prescott, they placed the exclusive franchise tender on him. Therefore, that allowed Prescott to receive a salary in 2020 ($31.4 million) that was the average of the top-five highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL.

Since the end of the 2019 season, Prescott has been longing for an extension from the Cowboys. Given the deals that Carson Wentz and Jared Goff received last offseason, Prescott is seeking more from Dallas.

Even though he’ll be signing his franchise tender, the Cowboys still have until July 15 to negotiate a multi-year extension with the former fourth-round pick.

There has been much speculation made about whether or not Dallas is going to sign Prescott this offseason. Regardless of when both sides agree upon a deal, Jay Glazer of Fox Sports believes Prescott will remain with the Cowboys for years to come.

Just this past season, Prescott threw for a career-high 4,902 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. Despite Dallas falling short of the postseason, Prescott was a bright spot for the Cowboys.

With Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson likely to increase the quarterback market even further soon, the Cowboys would be wise to ink Prescott as soon as possible. At the least, Prescott is signing his franchise tag, assuring that he’ll be with the team next season.
