Star quarterback Dak Prescott gave the Dallas Cowboys quite the scare Wednesday morning as he exited training camp with soreness in his throwing arm. After a 2020 season that saw the Cowboys fall out of serious contention once Prescott suffered a season-ending compound right ankle fracture early on, word of any possibility of injury for Prescott this season is a valid cause for concern.

However, the injury doesn't appear to be serious, according to Calvin Watkins from the Dallas Morning News.

“Team officials say Dak Prescott has soreness in his throwing arm. Prescott told the trainers he felt it warming up and decided to get it checked out. He didn’t want to push it,” Watkins stated in a recent Twitter post.

Watkins also tweeted, “Prescott told team officials he’s not concerned about it.”

Whether Prescott's injury is genuinely a normal training camp ailment, or a serious issue that will need to be monitored long-term remains to be seen. However, if the last few years are any indication, Cowboys fans should hold their breath until they see Prescott whipping the pigskin across the yard like usual.

A healthy Prescott would mean the world for Dallas, and would be a scary sight for NFL defenses, as the Cowboys were on pace to break the single-season throwing yards record and were in the thick of the division race up until Dak suffered his gruesome injury.

As evidenced by the Cowboys' 4-7 record following Dak's injury, and absence from the playoffs despite playing in the lightweight NFC East division, Prescott's health is a prerequisite to any success for Dallas in the upcoming season. Even with a star-studded offensive line, and standouts skill-position players like Ezekiel Elliott and Amari Cooper, Andy Dalton and any other backup QB the Cowboys employed paled in comparison to Prescott. Cowboys fans, send your prayers to the football gods.
