It became immediately clear when Dak Prescott suffered the gruesome injury that it would leave him sidelined for the immediate future. The urgency in which the Cowboys are now going through with the surgery only solidifies the severity of it.
Dallas had high hopes coming into the 2020 NFL season with their offense centered around Dak Prescott. Despite the team's struggles, he has managed to do his part under center with 1,690 yards heading into Week 5 and was coming off three consecutive games where he managed to throw for at least 450 yards.
Dak Prescott's injury now shifts the focus to his ongoing contract situation with the Cowboys. He is currently playing on a one-year franchise tag worth $31.4 million after both sides failed to negotiate a long-term deal this offseason. Given his track record with availability up to this point in his career, the injury should not be something the team holds against him.
Article Continues BelowThe onus will now fall on veteran backup quarterback Andy Dalton to lead the offense until there is more clarity on Dak Prescott's situation. Dalton's experience as a starter should help serve as a stabilizing factor under center. Dalton led the Cowboys to a 37-34 win over the New York Giants.
Meanwhile, fans are hoping for a speedy recovery for Dak Prescott.
