The iron man story continues — Dak Prescott will start for the Dallas Cowboys tomorrow, despite his right shoulder injury.
Prescott playing comes as no surprise, even though he didn't throw for much of the week. He hasn't missed a game in his four years as the Cowboys' starter, and he wasn't going to miss a start in a must-win game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.
Not only will Prescott play, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones doesn't think he will be very different when he does.
“No player at this point at this point in the season is at 100 percent after you go through the grind of an NFL season,” Jones said on his radio show on 105.3 The Fan (h/t Charean Willians of Pro Football Talk). “But knowing Dak, knowing his competitive nature, knowing how gritty and tough he is, I think we’ll get his best. I think he’ll be right there ready to compete at the highest level, and there’s no one I’d rather have under center than him.”
There is speculation that the Cowboys will narrow their playbook for Prescott, with the logic being to remove plays that get him in the risk of being hit. However, Jones says that won't be the case as the playbook will remain open.
“Absolutely. We’ll have the whole playbook open,” Jones said. “Had a lot of conversations with our trainers, with everybody making sure that’s the case. Everybody feels that way.”
Prescott was limited in practice for the first time in his career throughout the week. However, he maintained the status that he would play on Sunday. It appears he will do so without training wheels.
