The Dallas Cowboys dug deep into their pockets to reward superstar quarterback Dak Prescott with a massive four-year extension worth $160 million. This development caused a significant dent in the Cowboys' salary cap for 2021, and as expected, they have now made the necessary moves to clear up some space for the coming season.

According to ESPN's Todd Archer, Dallas has restructured the deals of three players on their roster to provide the team with more maneuverability in terms of their cap room:

The Cowboys have restructured the contracts for offensive lineman Zack Martin, Tyron Smith and La'el Collins creating roughly $17 million in cap room, according to a source. The moves get them under the cap with room to make strategic free agent signings if they choose.

This is clearly a key development in Dallas' offseason plans and one that puts them in a prime position to make the necessary additions to their squad. Right now, there appear to be a few positions the Cowboys will want to address within the team, and the fact that they were able to create close to $20 million in cap room will certainly help their cause.

Let's not forget that the Cowboys also have a slew of compensatory draft picks at their disposal which they could also include in any potential trade deal they might be looking at:

Needless to say, Dallas is in an excellent position right now. After what was an ultimately disappointing 2020 season, the Cowboys, who will also be getting their star QB back, now look forward to what should be a far greater 2021 campaign.
