Plenty of Dallas Cowboys fans might be getting used to the idea of not having Ezekiel Elliott ready for the team's season opener. However, it still frustrates everyone invested in the contract drama that the latest interaction between the two camps ended in another botched attempt to get a deal done.

Charles Robinson reported earlier in the day that the two sides were hoping to get the deal done before the day ends. However, his latest tweet changed tune, and it was a song no Cowboys fan want to hear (or read):

If industry insiders agree that both sides are still nowhere close to finishing a deal, it's highly likely that talks will continue until the day before the season opener.

It's especially frustrating for fans of America's Team to see the team stuck on making the perfect deal that the two-time Pro Bowler will sign. However, the fans also understand both sides of the argument.

Elliott wants to get paid because he was the driving force behind the Cowboys' attacks. He led the NFL last season in rushing yards, rushing attempts and overall touches. He also led the league in total rushing yards per game in the three seasons he has been in the league.

However, the Cowboys are also wary of extending another overblown contract that doesn't pan out. The Dez Bryant experiment is still fresh in the minds of many Cowboys fans, and the last thing they want to have is an overpaid RB who doesn't produce the numbers expected of the paycheck.

Since it's still the Labor Day weekend, there's a chance the deal will be finished by tomorrow. However, I suggest that Cowboys fans don't become too eager.

Elliott not starting the season is still a very real possibility.
