The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly entertaining the idea of possibly bringing back former safety Barry Church ahead of the stretch run of the regular season.

Church was waived by the Jacksonville Jaguars on Friday afternoon, which seemed a bit unusual given his recent role on the team.

However, he lost his starting job a few weeks ago and was ultimately placed on the inactive list for the Jaguars' Week 14 game against the Tennessee Titans.

That clearly led to his eventual release, and now he'll hit waivers in hopes of finding another team before the end of the season.

One team that could show interest? His former team in Dallas.

From Jane Slater of NFL Network:

Cowboys haven’t reached out to S Barry Church but I’m told they are discussing the possibility of bringing him back to Dallas according to a source informed. Church, 30, was released by the Jags today and is familiar with the system having played there from 2010-2016.

The Cowboys have completely turned their season around in winning five straight games, so adding some depth at the safety position wouldn't be a terrible idea ahead of a likely appearance in the playoffs.

Jason Garrett's team still needs to keep winning in order to prevent any wild scenarios from keeping them out of the playoffs, but with the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins both struggling, an NFC East title is well within reach.

Dallas will try to pick up its sixth straight victory on Sunday when they take on the Indianapolis Colts.
