The Dallas Cowboys and running back Ezekiel Elliott aren't figuring things out any time soon apparently. Elliott is holding out of training camp in hopes of a new deal and the two sides are far apart – very far apart.

This is the worst possible news for any fan of the Dallas Cowboys that wants Ezekiel Elliott on the team (should be just about everyone). They don't disagree on one thing, they disagree on everything.

This is just piling on to the bad news about the running back, as he not only didn't report to training camp – but went to Cabo.

However, you can try to twist this into somewhat positive news if you want. When the Cabo news came out, it made it seem as if Elliott wasn't even interested in talking about a new deal. I mean, if he was he'd be in the country right?

However, the news that they're far apart on everything kind of contradicts that. If the two sides weren't talking, they probably wouldn't know this fact.

So while they're far apart at the moment, at least discussions seem to be happening. As long as there are discussions, headway can be made. Who knows, maybe in a week the reports will be that the two sides are “still pretty far apart”. Then the next week they'll be “in positive discussion”. Soon the reports will be that the two sides are “working together to figure out the parameters of a deal”. And finally, the deal will be done.

Of course, that's the positive way to look at it. The negative way is that they aren't close and Elliott is in Cabo – meaning he's not going to be talking to them much. That means the Dallas Cowboys and Ezekiel Elliott won't be reaching a deal anytime soon and the running back won't be suiting up for a while.

So you can pick which route you want to believe they're about to go down.
