With Byron Jones signing a record-breaking deal with the Miami Dolphins, the Dallas Cowboys needed to keep at least some of their cornerback group intact. Per Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, Dallas has re-signed 26-year-old defensive back Anthony Brown to a three-year deal worth $15.5 million.

A sixth-round pick in 2016 out of Purdue, Brown has started 34 games in his first four seasons as a Cowboy. However, the 5-foot-11, 196-pound cornerback was forced to miss seven games in 2019 due to a tricep injury.

In nine games and four starts last season, Brown recorded 17 tackles and five passes defended. For his career, Brown has recorded 172 tackles, eight tackles for a loss, four interceptions and three sacks.

While Brown has been a solid contributor during his time in Dallas, the loss of the franchise's top cornerback should force the Cowboys to actively seek a replacement early in the upcoming draft.

Brown will join fellow cornerbacks Chidobe Awuzie and third-year pro Jourdan Lewis as the only others at the position who have starting experience from last season.

Overall, it has been a fairly turbulent offseason for the Cowboys so far. Other than Jones leaving to Miami, Dallas will also be missing starting defensive tackle Maliek Collins and safety Jeff Heath, both of whom are signing with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Star defensive end Robert Quinn also recently announced that he would be signing a five-year deal with the Chicago Bears while wide receiver Randall Cobb, offensive guard Xavier Su'a-Filo and veteran tight end Jason Witten have all signed elsewhere as free agents.
