The Dallas Cowboys were at serious risk of having DeMarcus Lawrence walk in free agency after failing to agree to a restructured contract last week. Despite their previous disagreements, the two sides have reportedly found mutual ground on a new deal that will keep the star EDGE rusher in Dallas for three more years. According to Ian Rapoport, Lawrence is penning a new three-year, $30 million deal.

The $30 million in the new contract will be fully guaranteed money. Lawrence initially had two years and $40 million remaining on his contract with the Cowboys, but his new deal will give him more security in terms of contract length and guaranteed money.

Lawrence has spent his entire NFL career with the Cowboys, so it's no surprise he was keen to re-up with the team. Lawrence's 2021 season was plagued by injury, managing to appear in just 7 games. He recorded 3.5 sacks, 21 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, and 1 interception in his shortened season, still making a significant impact in Dallas.

The former Boise State product was the Cowboys' second-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft and has since become a key contributor in the trenches for the team. Throughout his eight NFL seasons, Lawrence has 48.5 sacks and 321 tackles, having featured in 103 games.

The Cowboys were adamant that after talks broke down with Lawrence that he'd be retained by the team in free agency, and they made good on that claim immediately. The new three-year deal will provide the Cowboys with some more flexibility to maneuver in free agency, while Lawrence gets more guaranteed money and will be in town through the 2024 season.
