Dallas Cowboys star running back Ezekiel Elliott has found himself in the headlines once again this time being handed a six-game suspension for his alleged involvement in a domestic violence situation.

Following the suspension, former Cowboys great and Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith voiced his concern about the direction that the 22-year-old is heading in, according to Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk.

“What I’m really concerned about is his future,” Smith said on the Rich Eisen Show. “This is a tremendous opportunity for a lot of athletes to be able to do something that you absolutely love and get compensated for it and be able to have an impact in another person’s life.

Smith is making a strong point as the NFL is a tremendous opportunity for a select group of professional athletes. Elliott isn't doing himself any favors by getting involved in a situation that could cost him that chance.

This coupled with the few other questionable decisions has brought forth this strong sense of concern. Elliott is an incredibly talented player that could go to waste if he continues to travel done this slippery path.

At the same time, this is an opportunity for him to learn and make adjustments in his life moving forward. Simply put, this is a huge crossroad in both his career and life away from the game.
