The Dallas Cowboys' season ended in disappointing fashion with an early playoff exit. Such endings often are accompanied by great change within franchises, which appeared likely to happen with the Cowboys, given head coach Mike McCarthy's shaky job status. McCarthy isn't the only one whose future was put into question after the season. Star running back Ezekiel Elliott, who endured an injury-filled, underwhelming campaign, has been mentioned as someone who may not be in Dallas in 2022. Cowboys executive Vice President Stephen Jones perhaps put such speculation to rest with his strong endorsement of Elliott's future on Monday, via Todd Archer of ESPN.

Jones didn't hold back when speaking about Elliott, saying that “he wants Zeke on his team.” Jones mentioned the injuries that Elliott played through, saying that the Cowboys star is a “competitor” and a “damn good running back.”

Those are strong words. Elliott dealt with knee and rib injuries this year, though he still managed to exceed 1,000 yards on the ground while scoring double-digit touchdowns. There are some who believe that Dallas' backup, Tony Pollard, has surpassed Elliott in terms of ability.

However, the 26-year-old Elliott is still young enough to have multiple strong seasons left in the tank, which is why Jones was so adamant with his “he's going to be here” statement.

The Cowboys know that in order for the franchise to get where Jerry Jones wants it to go, Elliott will have to be a part of it. Don't expect him to go anywhere this offseason.
