The Dallas Cowboys have been trying to come to an agreement with Dak Prescott with no success yet. The Philadelphia Eagles recently gave Carson Wentz an extension that could make things tougher on the Cowboys.

The former president of the Eagles, Joe Banner says the Dallas made a mistake by waiting to extend Prescott. Banner was on The Rich Eisen Show to discuss the Prescott situation recently.

“They made a mistake. This is normal for the Cowboys. They tend to sign guys later rather than early. And I think it'll get done before the season, but now they have to work off of the (Carson Wentz) deal. They will probably end up paying him less than Wentz.

Of course, there could be some team bias being taken into account with this statement. Although, what he said could be a true statement considering everything he said.

The Cowboys could've gotten a deal done with Prescott ahead of Wentz' extension but chose not to. Therefore, Dallas will need to use the Wentz extension as a foundation of what Prescott's new deal will look like.

It's tough to predict if his deal will be for less or more but it will likely be in the same ballpark as the Eagles quarterback. Nonetheless, the Cowboys will want to get a deal done before this season before Prescott's contract expires after 2019.

If no deal is done in that time frame, Dallas could be looking into using their franchise tag on their quarterback.

In conclusion, as Banner said, the Cowboys may have waited too long to strike a deal they would want with Prescott.
