The national anthem protest has been a common theme in sports as of late and has been viewed as one of the most controversial topics in the NFL.

Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones feels strongly against the anthem protest. Jones said the following about the protest in an interview with 105.3 The Fan.

Transcribed by Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning Star News.

“I just feel so strongly that the act of recognizing the flag is a salute to our country and all of the people that have sacrificed so that we can have the liberties we have.”

Head Coach Jason Garrett shared the same sentiments:

“The national anthem is sacred. Our flag is sacred. And our team has demonstrated that.”

Many people would different interpretations to this, as well as different beliefs on the matter. In order to stay objective let's look at this in two ways.

One, you can make the argument that Jones is suppressing his players and indirectly telling them that if they protest the anthem there will be consequences. However, that is purely speculation.

Two, Jones is of the older generation and doesn't understand what protesting the national anthem does and it is disrespectful. Also, take into account he owns “America's” team and being in a conservative state it isn't a good idea to rock the boat.
