The Dallas Cowboys need a lot of change if they want to become a serious contender for the Super Bowl. The defensive line could use a boost after being unable to stop opposing offenses at times. Their response to this is hiring former San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Tomsula to lead the line and stop teams from running all over them.

According to ESPN's Todd Archer, there is a great change happening in the Cowboys organization. They want to contend for the Super Bowl sooner rather than later, and their intention to get Tomsula as a coach for their defensive line is representative of their intentions to fully improve their defense.

Tomsula built his career on establishing a strong defensive line, and his reputation helped him get the job. He started his career with Catawba College as an assistant coach before building his reputation as a defensive line coach with Charleston Southern. After five years with the Buccaneers and a short return to Catawba, he spent significant time with NFL Europe teams, making stops in England, Scotland, and Germany.

He returned to American soil in 2007 as the defensive line coach for the San Francisco 49ers from 2007 to 2014. He was named head coach from Week 17 of the 2014 season until the end of the 2015 season. He soon found work with the Washington Redskins, where he worked from 2017 until today.

He will bring some stability to a Cowboys defensive line that was already one of the best defenses in the NFL. Fans hope that his future inclusion to the team will finally end the Cowboys' drought.
