When the NFL owners get together later this month of the things to be discussed is a proposed new overtime rule, something that Dallas Cowboys COO Stephen Jones says the team supports. The Chiefs earlier this offseason introduced a rule change that would give both teams a chance to get the ball in overtime. Even if the first time were to score a touchdown, the second team would still get a chance with the ball and score a touchdown.

The Chiefs introduced the rule change after they weren't allowed to get the ball in the AFC Championship game before the Patriots scored a touchdown with the first possession.

“We hadn’t had our [Competition Committee] call yet, which we will, so it’s tough for me to know where the Committee’s leaning,” Jones said via Pro Football Talk. “I certainly tend to lean toward the new rule. . . . It’s certainly something that had some traction there in the room, and certainly saw some people who were very interested in it. But we’ll get on a call there, take a long, hard look at it, and I’m sure membership’s gonna get to see it.”

Like Jones said it's unclear what way the committee is leaning but we know at least the Cowboys support the rule change. The next question for the committee is if they pass this will they need to extend the length overtime to give teams enough chance to have two possessions.
