Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terrance Williams got another blemish on his pro football resume. According to Field Yates of ESPN, the NFL has handed Williams a three-game suspension due to his violation of the league’s policy on substance abuse.

The suspension Williams from commissioner Roger Goodell’s office is related to an off-the field incident he had back in May, when he was arrested and charged of public intoxication in Texas after he crashed his car into a light pole. The charges, however, were eventually waived after he went through a mandatory Alcohol Awareness Education course.

With or without the suspension, Terrance Williams isn’t going to see any action on the field for the next three weeks, as he’s been placed by the Cowboys on the injured reserve due to a foot injury.

The former Baylor Bears wideout has appeared in only three games this season for the Cowboys and has accumulated just 18 receiving yards on two receptions, a disappointing production level for someone that Dallas hoped prior to the season would take a big leap forward in the team’s passing attack following the release of Dez Bryant and the retirement of Jason Witten.

Last year, Williams had 568 receiving yards on 53 receptions in 16 games played.

If Williams will be designated by the Cowboys to return, the soonest he can return to the field is on Dec. 9, when Dallas plays the Philadelphia Eagles at home.
