Dak Prescott's future with the Dallas Cowboys has been a topic of discussion in recent years, and the Cowboys want to put those discussions to rest this offseason. Despite his season-ending ankle injury in 2020, which ultimately required two surgeries, Dallas plans on either signing Prescott or tagging him again, per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport.

Since before the 2019 season, Prescott has been seeking an extension from the Cowboys after Carson Wentz and Jared Goff inked deals with their respective teams. Though, it should be noted that Goff has been traded this offseason, and it seems likely that Wentz suffers the same fate soon.

As for Prescott, Dallas placed the franchise tag on him ahead of the 2020 season after failing to get a long-term deal in place. Even though Prescott didn't play a full season in 2020, the Cowboys are focused on finally putting together a multi-year deal for their franchise quarterback.

Even if they can't get an agreement finalized, they will at least place their franchise tag on Prescott for the second year in a row. Seeing the recent contracts that quarterbacks have signed, the Cowboys would rather get a long-term deal done instead of paying an expensive franchise tag for another season.

Dak Prescott was on his way to a stellar season for the Cowboys in 2020, throwing for 1,856 yards and nine touchdowns before injuring his ankle in Week 5 versus the New York Giants. After they saw their offense perform inconsistently with Prescott sidelined, Dallas is ready to get a new contract done with the former fourth-round pick.
