LaVar Ball's insistence that his son Lonzo will only play for the Los Angeles Lakers was one of the many intriguing story lines heading into the NBA draft. Ball's brash nature and somewhat erratic behavior made him more of a wrestling character than a proud father, but apparently this narrative has been told before (just not to this extreme).

According to former Timberwolves GM David Khan, the Ball storyline was all-too familiar, as he likened the case of LaVar Ball to another famous NBA father– Dell Curry.

While Khan didn't say the two personalities were anything similar, he noted the fact that the elder Curry tried to dictate where is son was drafted. Or more accurately, where he wasn't drafted.

In an interview with SI.com, Khan had this to say:

In 2009, just days after my May 22 hiring as President of Basketball Operations for the Minnesota Timberwolves, the agent for Steph Curry told me that Steph’s father, Dell, did not want his son to be drafted by Minnesota—“No offense,” as I recall Jeff Austin, his agent saying to me at the Chicago draft combine.

According to Khan, it isn't all that surprising to see an NBA father try put his son in a situation where they can succeed, It obviously worked out well for Stephen Curry, as he's now a two time NBA champion and MVP of the league.

LaVar Ball can only hope his son will have even a fraction of that success. Then again, he's already confident his son is better than Curry, for whatever that's worth.
