Los Angeles Dodgers fans are anxiously monitoring Cody Bellinger during Spring Training, hoping the former NL MVP can return to his past form after struggling the past two seasons. Things haven't gone well for Bellinger this spring, however, as he's once again been striking out at unprecedented rates. His strikeout issues haven't fazed him, though. Addressing the media Tuesday, Bellinger attempted to reassure Dodgers fans, claiming he's feeling better than his production would suggest, via Bill Plunkett.

Bellinger maintained a positive attitude while discussing his disappointing Spring Training, even cracking a joke after yet another subpar outing at the plate.

“I’m not focused on the results at all,” said Bellinger via The Orange County Register. “I’m just getting my ‘punchies’ [strikeouts] out of the way in March, so they don’t happen in the season. It’s pretty smart if you think about it that way.”

While it's certainly encouraging to see that Bellinger isn't down in the dumps over his recent woes, Dodgers fans are hoping to see some actual results on the field. Bellinger has struck out in 14 of his 19 spring training at-bats, including nine in a row. These struggles come on the heels of an abysmal 2021 season, during which Bellinger struck out 94 times in 95 games. He slashed just .165/.240/.302 with 10 home runs and 36 RBI, posting a career-worst -1.5 WAR.

Manager Dave Roberts admitted he had sat down with Bellinger, revealing that the two were “on the same page,” and claiming that Bellinger is “working really hard every single day with our hitting guys.”

Over the past two seasons, Bellinger has been a far cry from the 2019 NL MVP that launched 47 home runs and drove in 119 runs. If his struggles in spring are any indication of what's to come, Belli could be in for another rough season.
