The MLB trade deadline was a wild one that went up until the last minute and even had a few deals announced after the deadline had passed. Perhaps the wildest situation was regarding Washington Nationals star Max Scherzer, who ended up being dealt to the Los Angeles Dodgers. On Thursday, reports came out that the San Diego Padres were “close” to acquiring Scherzer.

In a strange turn of events, nothing unfolded with the Padres, and the Dodgers swooped in and snagged Scherzer and Trea Turner in a huge blockbuster deal. On Tuesday, Scherzer spoke about the strange situation, according to Scott Miller.

It was definitely a strange situation, and reports came out that the Padres were never that close on a potential blockbuster for Scherzer. Instead, he is headed to the Dodgers, who are just a few games ahead of the Padres in the National League West.

A ton of players were sent elsewhere, including Javy Baez, Joey Gallo, and Kris Bryant, but the Dodgers deal for Scherzer was one of the biggest as the World Series Champions try their best to make another trip to the Series.

Scherzer is all set for his Dodgers debut, and he very easily could have been a member of the Padres, or so it seems.
