The Los Angeles Dodgers won three of the last four games against the Cincinnati Reds over the weekend. On Sunday, Shohei Ohtani played hero with a walk-off single in the 10th inning that plated Jason Heyward.

After the game, Ohtani spoke about the weekend, one that included the Dodgers giving away bobbleheads of himself (h/t Christian Romo of Dodgers Insider).

“Overall it was a special weekend,” Ohtani said. “I wasn’t able to get a base hit on my bobblehead day, but I was able to end on a really good note.”

Ohtani finished Sunday's game with a pair of hits but went just 3-of-14 for the entire series against the Reds. But, it seems his regret is not being able to register a hit on the day his bobbleheads were given out. That was also the only game of the series the Dodgers lost.

Still, his numbers on the year are jumping off the page. Ohtani is hitting .353 with 13 home runs, 33 RBI, and 36 runs scored after signing a massive deal in free agency over the offseason. And, up until this point, he has shown to be worth every penny of it.

Dave Roberts chimes in on Shohei Ohtani

After the series ended with an Ohtani walk-off, Dave Roberts had plenty to say about his superstar.

“The last four weeks, he’s been very stubborn in his strike zone,” manager Dave Roberts said. “When (pitchers) make mistakes he takes advantage. Whether it’s needing a baserunner or getting a hit, he’s done a great job of controlling the strike zone.”

Afte the walk-off hit, Ohtani opened up on his approach at the plate: “(I was) just trying to get a base hit, and I was glad I was able to do that.”

Ohtani's plate discipline has been quite something to watch ever since he came into the MLB, and this season is no different.

Since May 1, Ohtani has a slash line of .393/.469/.656/1.125 with eight walks, six home runs and 14 RBI. To make things better, the Dodgers have lost just four games in the month of May, bringing a 32-17 record into the series against the Arizona Diamondbacks that begins on Monday.

The Dodgers star leads the MLB in batting average, hits, and OPS and is second in OBP, right behind his teammate Mookie Betts. He should be considered as an early favorite to win the National League MVP award, especially at the rate he is hitting as of right now.

The Dodgers face the Diamondbacks for a three-game set in LA before hitting the road for six games against the Cincinnati Reds and New York Mets.
