Brian Flores had a very solid first season as the Miami Dolphins' head coach, taking a team that was expected by many to be one of the worst in NFL history and actually making it respectable.

Now, heading into 2020, Flores has even bigger expectations and won't tolerate the same type of sloppy play that the Dolphins were guilty of for much of 2019:

“It’s never my expectation that football is going to look sloppy,” Flores told Judy Battista of NFL.com. “Dante Scarnecchia (the former New England Patriots offensive line coach) walks out there every day and says, ‘Today, I’m going to coach me some well-played ball.’ And then he finishes it off after five seconds. ‘Or so we hope.’”

Given the fact that Miami has so many new incoming pieces, whether they be all of the free agents it signed or rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, not expecting sloppy play early on might be a bit unrealistic. Compounding that is the fact that teams can't even practice together right now because of the coronavirus pandemic.

But Flores isn't letting that get to him:

“I guess I could get frustrated,” Flores said. “But really, what does that do? That would be a waste of energy. I try to direct my energy to things I can control. Right now, it’s how can I make these meetings as good as they can be, so guys can get as much information, and can make as many improvements as we can, given the circumstances.”

The Dolphins went 5-11 this past season and have made just a pair of playoff appearances since 2002.
