The Miami Dolphins stunned the NFL world on Monday morning when the team surprisingly announced the decision to fire head coach Brian Flores. Just about everyone has weighed in with their opinion on the Dolphins' decision, with much of the reactions being negative. Well, after the move was made official, Flores himself released an official statement, shared via Field Yates, thanking the city and organization for the opportunity.

Flores handled his firing with as much class as he showcased while coaching the Dolphins. While the decision was probably a tough one for Flores to swallow, he took it in stride.

Flores' firing came as a significant surprise to most, especially considering the Dolphins ended the year on an 8-1 run. Owner Stephen Ross no longer felt that Flores was the right coach to lead the team into the future, despite all that Flores achieved during his three-year stint with the team. During his tenure as Dolphins head coach, Flores amassed a 24-25 record. Over the past two years, Flores has led Miami to a 19-14 record, but after missing the playoffs once again in 2021, the Dolphins decided to look in a new direction.

Despite the questionable decisions made by GM Chris Grier, Ross opted to retain the front office member and bring him back in the same role for 2022. Ross and Grier will surely be hoping this next hire is a home run, because they will be heavily scrutinized throughout the hiring process. Finding a coach superior to Flores will be a significant challenge, but that will be the expectation for the organization after parting ways with the 40-year-old.
