The Miami Dolphins managed to bring in some veteran leadership in running back Frank Gore this offseason. It seems he is already enamored with his backfield counterpart in running back Kenyan Drake.

Drake became Miami's workhorse following the departure of running back Jay Ajayi last season. According to Jason Lieser of the Palm Beach Post, Gore understands why the Dolphins traded Ajayi.

“I was like, ‘Man, I kinda see why they traded Jay Ajayi,’” Gore said. “He’s very talented. Jay Ajayi was a great back, too, but Kenyan is a very talented guy. He’s smart. He can do everything on the field. I think that me and him can really help this team be successful this year.”

Ajayi had quite a grip on the Dolphins' backfield after a stellar 2016 campaign. As a result, Drake's career in Miami got off to a bit of a slow start. That was largely the case last season as well up until the departure of Ajayi.

It seems Drake was able to make quite the impression on the coaching staff as they wound up making the trade and handing the keys to the backfield over him. He certainly did not disappoint thanks to his versatile skill set as both a runner and receiver. He finished the year with 644 yards and three touchdowns on the ground while hauling in 32 receptions for 239 yards and a touchdown.

Despite Drake's role as the new workhorse, it seems Gore is looking forward to doing his part as well. Although the veteran's days may be numbered, he is still an extremely viable option in the backfield.
