DeVante Parker is close remaining with the Miami Dolphins a little while longer, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

According to NBC Sports, the new deal that the team is looking to negotiate is worth $13 million, if all of Parker's incentives are met over the course of two years. Parker was a first-round pick in 2015 and didn’t live up to the expectations that accompanied him in Miami. There were several offseason stories about Parker being poised for a breakout year, but his 163 catches for 2,217 yards and nine touchdowns show that they never paid off.

This move is a bit of a surprising one, for Miami, especially since as was previously mentioned, Parker's original contract didn't necessarily pay off for them. It seems like new head coach Brian Flores is giving Parker a chance to prove that the “fifth time's a charm.”

For those who were wondering what happens to Parker's $9 million bonus payout, The Miami Herald has a bit of a breakdown of the details of the deal.

“The new deal supersedes Parker’s fifth-year option, which was to pay him $9.4 million in base salary this year. He was never going to get that, not with his injury history (he’s missed 10 games in his career due to a litany of maladies) and production (just nine touchdowns in four seasons). But Chris Grier still believes in Devante Parker and his talent, and Brian Flores does too. Plus, Parker wanted to remain in Miami, even after some drama with Adam Gase last season.”
