The Miami Dolphins are set to bring in free-agent safety Kenny Vaccaro in for a visit on Thursday, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports.

Could the #Dolphins get a top-flight defender this late in free agent? Source said #Saints S Kenny Vaccaro is visiting Miami today. Would add firepower on the back end.

Vaccaro, 27, is a former first-round pick of the New Orleans Saints in 2013. He spent his first five seasons in the league in the Big Easy, recording 385 total tackles, eight interceptions, 30 passes defended, and 7.5 sacks.

Vaccaro has had trouble staying on the field in the last couple of years. After getting hit with a four-game drug-related suspension in 2016, he missed four games last season due to groin and wrist injuries, which both required surgery.

But despite missing four games last year, Vaccaro still ended up with a career-high three interceptions as well as seven passes defended, which was his highest total since his rookie year. Even with that strong year, though, the Saints still decided to move on from the safety.

Vaccaro, who is a Texas native, was linked with the Dallas Cowboys earlier in the offseason, but has remained available as this year’s free-agent safety market has not exactly been booming with activity.

The Dolphins currently have two-time Pro Bowler Reshad Jones and T.J. McDonald at the safety spots. But Vaccaro is one of the top players left on the market (Pro Football Talk has him as the top-ranked unsigned free agent), and the Dolphins’ interest in him could signal that they are at least open to making an upgrade at that position.
