On Sunday afternoon, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins improved to an impressive record of 9-3 on the 2023-24 NFL season with a resounding road victory over the Washington Commanders by a score of 45-15. Tagovailoa and the offense have been setting opposing defenses on fire throughout this season, and although there are still a few concerns about the team's viability against tougher competition, the Dolphins are currently very much in play to earn a bye in the first round of the AFC playoffs.

One person who does not want any praise lofted in his direction is Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel, who recently spoke on why he doesn't care one bit that his team would be the first overall seed if the season ended today.

“Call me when it’s a 13-game season,” McDaniel said, per Michael David Smith of NBC Sports.

Indeed, Miami still has five games left on its schedule for the 2023-24 season, with the race still very much tightly contested between themselves, the Baltimore Ravens, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Dolphins were able to hold onto the number one seed on Monday night when the Jaguars lost at home to the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football.

The concerns about the team's ability to perform against higher competition are warranted–the three toughest opponents the Dolphins have faced this year each resulted in losses. Still, that shouldn't take away from what Miami has been able to accomplish this season, even if Mike McDaniel doesn't want a pat on the back for it.
