Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa weighed on his alma mater, Alabama's controversial pick over Florida State by the College Football Playoff selection committee. During an appearance on ESPN's Manningcast during last night's Monday Night Football game between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Cincinnati Bengals, Tagovailoa offered a restrained commentary on the subject.

The Dolphins' quarterback's comments came with a sheepish grin, much to the delight of the show's hosts, brothers Peyton and Eli Manning — both former SEC quarterbacks in their own right.

“I don't think it's fair,” said the former Alabama quarterback. “But do I think it's right? That too, I don't know.”

Tagovailoa, a native of ‘Ewa Beach, Hawaii, played 32 games for Alabama between 2017 and 2019, including 24 starts. He compiled a 22-2 record, passing for nearly 7,500 yards and completing 87 touchdown passes. He won a National Championship with the school in 2017 and was named SEC Offensive Player of the Year in 2018. The Dolphins drafted Tagovailoa with the fifth overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Florida State's omission from the tournament has been arguably the most significant story in sports this week, with athletes from across the pro sports spectrum eager to give their opinions. Former NFL players Kurt Warner, Deion Sanders, Richard Sherman, and even Chicago White Sox manager Pedro Grifol have all offered their thoughts.

“Florida State is a different team than they were through the first 11 weeks,” College Football Playoff committee chair Boo Corrigan explained to ESPN. “Coach Norvell, their players, their fans, an incredible season. But as you look at who they are as a team right now without Jordan Travis, without the offensive dynamic that he brings to it, they are a different team. And the committee voted Alabama 4 and Florida State 5.”
