Miami Dolphins presumptive starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick recently left the team practice before it even began. No one knew about what he was going through at the time but it turned out that his mother has passed away.

ESPN reporter Cameron Wolfe disclosed the situation on Twitter:

Head coach Brian Flores also spoke in response to the matter involving Ryan Fitzpatrick's mother:

“Fitz has tried to work through. He's always tried to practice… It's a tough situation. Our hearts go out to him as a team and an organization…There's things bigger than football.” “There's no QB controversy. He's not retiring. He's not opting out.”

Third-year player Josh Rosen and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa will both be filling in the starting quarterback spot in lieu of Ryan Fitzpatrick's absence. Both gunslingers are only aiming for the back-up position ever since Fitzpatrick was named by Flores as the Week 1 starter for the Dolphins.

The Miami-based team is currently in their rebuilding efforts after finishing from a 5-11 record last season. They have also missed out on the postseason for the 12th-straight season. The Dolphins will have to work on many things and fill several holes in their roster before they can pose a threat to their AFC East division rivals.

Fitzpatrick's veteran leadership and maturity on the field will be needed by the team if they wanted to make the most out of their upcoming season. However, if and when the 16-year veteran will be coming back to the team's training camp remains to be determined.

Sometimes, there are just things that will always be bigger than football.
