The Miami Dolphins are looking to supply quarterback Tua Tagovailoa with as many options in the backfield as possible this offseason. On Monday, Miami signed former Arizona Cardinals tailback Chase Edmonds to a two-year deal worth $12.6 million. They were not done. According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, the Dolphins have also agreed to terms with former San Francisco 49ers running back Raheem Mostert. NFL.com writer Grant Gordon detailed the signing.

The signing brings together Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel with his former player. McDaniel was the offensive coordinator in 2021, but was the run game coordinator in San Francisco from 2017 to 2020. It was during that time that Mostert made a name for himself.
Article Continues BelowDuring the NFC Championship Game between the Green Bay Packers and 49ers a few years ago, it was Mostert who rushed for a record four touchdowns and 220 yards. However, injuries have derailed his career multiple times. Mostert has only started and finished a season once since 2017. He sustained an ACL injury in Week 1 last season, costing him the entire year.
The backfield in Miami is beginning to look a little crowded. Alongside Mostert and Edmonds, the Dolphins still have Myles Gaskin and Salvon Ahmed in the running backs room. Gaskin had a breakout season two years ago for Miami, but failed to follow that up with a successful season as the every-down tailback.
Miami likely should be looking to sign a receiver in free agency to help Tagovailoa in the passing game. Jaylen Waddle was a superstar for Miami last season. But DeVante Parker is too inconsistent and injury prone to be counted on at this point in his career.
