Dustin Poirier is set to meet Charles Oliveira in the main event of UFC 269. The opportunity will allow him to potentially become the lightweight champion.

Dustin Poirier has some interesting ideas should he become the UFC lightweight champion. Don't expect him to defend the belt a record number of times and become the longest-serving champion at lightweight.

The Louisiana native recently spoke to MMAJunkie about what his plans are should he win the belt at UFC 269. He's not overlooking his opponent but does have an interesting idea.

“I feel good. I’m having fun. If anything, I’ll go up. I’ll probably go to 170, if anything,” UFC lightweight Poirier said. “But no, honestly, my goal isn’t to try to have the most successful title defenses. I don’t know. We’ll see. One day at a time. I can’t look, none of that is even a reality until December 11th happens and I get my hand raised. I have to do that first before we can even go into these conversations because I don’t know what’s next. I live my life one day at a time, man; a quarter-mile at a time.”

Dustin Poirier may quote Fast and Furious but that doesn't mean he needs to handle his career that way. Welterweight is a very popular division in the UFC right now and there are some storylines up there.

Colby Covington has a very public beef with Dustin Poirier and the two could settle their differences in the UFC octagon should the current lightweight choose to move up. More than likely he would want a super fight with current UFC champion Kamaru Usman.
