Immediately following the Buffalo Bills' decision to move wide receiver Sammy Watkins to the Los Angeles Rams, the Bills acquired his replacement in fourth-year wideout Jordan Matthews from the Philadelphia Eagles.

According to Jeff McLane of Philly.com, second-year quarterback Carson Wentz voiced his own personal difficulty with the move given his close friendship with Matthews.

“It’s tough,” Wentz said. “It’s one of those things where there’s the personal side to things and the football side to things. The football side of things, you just got to trust what they’re doing upstairs. Ultimately, they’re the ones that make those decisions. And what they think is best for the team, I’m going to be in support of 100 percent. They haven’t let me down or haven’t let this team down yet.”

Trades in the NFL, let alone any professional sports league, are difficult to deal with for those involved. There are often personal bonds built between the players, making the process even harder. In light of that, Wentz had taken to Instagram to comment on the strong bond that the two shared during their short time together in Philadelphia.

In Wentz' first season, Matthews quickly proved to be one of his favorite targets, posting a respectable season with 73 catches for 804 receiving yards and three touchdowns. The loss of the 25-year-old is a notable void, but the acquisition of former Pro Bowl wideout Alshon Jeffery in free agency on a one-year deal and rookie Zay Jones should more than fill the gap.

At the end of the day, trades are a part of the business that often times creates situations like this for teammates.
