The Philadelphia Eagles have been a running back carousel for the last couple of seasons. Heading into 2019, the team had loaded up with three potential starting running backs. Now, they may add one more as Jay Ajayi is scheduled for a visit on Friday, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

This is a surprising report. The Eagles are perhaps the least running back-needy team in the NFL. Jordan Howard, Miles Sanders, and Darren Sproles make up a crowded backfield. While Ajayi may be a slight upgrade over those guys, it doesn't make any type of sense to bring him in.

Howard has been successful in the lead role and Sanders has been great as the change-of-pace guy. It just doesn't seem like there's a role for Ajayi in a backfield where every role is already filled. Although Philly might not be Ajayi's future home, there are some other options.

The Detroit Lions are hurting for running backs every since starter Kerryon Johnson went on injured reserve. The New York Giants showed some interest in Ajayi earlier in the season with Saquon Barkley injured. With Barkley dealing with another injury, signing Ajayi as an insurance policy wouldn't be crazy.
