Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie claims Carson Wentz’s contract extension gives team ability to plan ahead
The Philadelphia Eagles went through a significant change this NFL offseason with veteran quarterback Nick Foles signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars as a free agent. This move by Foles, which was expected, forced the hand of the Eagles front office in terms of securing the long-term future of up-and-coming gunslinger, Carson Wentz.
Although Wentz has dealt with injuries throughout his first few seasons with the team, there’s no doubting his talent and what could be Hall-of-Fame-caliber career in the NFL if he’s able to stay healthy. Despite his undeniable talent, the health issue is a concern, but clearly not enough to not sign him to a lucrative extension.
Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie recently talked about the team inking Wentz to a four-year extension and what it means to him and the team moving forward, via Dave Spadaro’s Twitter account.

Lurie views Wentz as a major part of the team’s future, which also gives the franchise the ability to plan ahead, transcription via Pro Football Talk.
“He’s everything you want in a franchise quarterback. To be able to plan ahead and know exactly that he’s going to be with us and build the roster in just the way that we want to do it, it means everything. It allows you to make smart decisions. We always wanted a terrific quarterback and a terrific person, and he embodies it in every way.”
With Wentz in the fold for the foreseeable future, it’ll be interesting to see whether the star quarterback can stay healthy and if he’s able to keep the team a title contender.
