The Philadelphia Eagles are expected to sign free-agent defensive lineman Malik Jackson, according to Josina Anderson of ESPN.

Jackson was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars last week after a very disappointing 2018 campaign in which he registered 32 tackles and 3.5 sacks in 10 starts. He was actually demoted to a reserve role in the second half of the season.

The 29-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Tennessee, was originally selected by the Denver Broncos in the fifth round (137th pick overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft.

He played in 14 games during his rookie campaign, logging five tackles in a limited role. Then, the following season, Jackson totaled 50 tackles, six sacks, a forced fumble and four passes defended.

Jackson did not become a full-time starter along the Broncos' defensive line until 2015 when he registered 46 tackles, 5.5 sacks, a couple of fumble recoveries and seven passes defended in helping Denver win a Super Bowl title.

That ensuing offseason, Jackson signed a monstrous six-year, $90 million contract with the Jaguars, and in his first season in Jacksonville, the Northridge, California native recorded 33 stops, 6.5 sacks, a fumble recovery and four passes defended.

He then went on to have the best year of his NFL career in 2017, racking up 40 tackles, eight sacks and four forced fumbles en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.

But, like just about everything else with the Jags this past season, Jackson's 2018 production took a nose dive.

The Eagles are coming off of a 2018 campaign in which they won nine games and lost to the New Orleans Saints in the Divisional Round of the playoffs.
