All but two members of the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles were present for the first day of organized team activities on Monday. Head coach Doug Pederson said that the veteran duo of defensive lineman Michael Bennett and running back Darren Sproles were those two exceptions to an otherwise perfect attendance, per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk.

Pederson clarified that the absence of Bennett, who is in his first offseason with the team after he arrived in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks, is not connected to the indictment he faces for an incident during the Super Bowl in Houston.

Pederson also notes that Bennett will likely take part in some of the team’s 10 OTA practices and that he’s confident in the veteran’s ability to be ready for the season despite missing some practice time.

As for Sproles, who re-signed with the team last month, he’s still recovering from the torn ACL which kept him out for virtually all of last season. It’s unlikely that the 35-year-old would be back to full speed if he did take part in the practice, so his absence shouldn’t be all that concerning. He probably still needs a bit more time in order to get himself completely right.

At this stage in their careers, Bennett and Sproles will likely be used more in terms of providing depth as opposed to playing heavier snap counts this season. Nevertheless, they are both still capable of providing a significant impact in the champions’ title defense this season if they can remain healthy.
