In wake of Carson Wentz suffering a season-ending ACL tear against the Los Angeles Rams this past Sunday, it has thrust Nick Foles into the starting role.

Despite having his fair of struggles over the last couple of years, Foles does share some similarities to Wentz through their first 24 career games with the Eagles.

The 28-year-old had much success in Philadephia in his first stint with the team helping lead the team to a playoff appearance. Much of this production came from a highly efficient 2013 campaign where he threw for 2,891 yards with 27 touchdown passes to two interceptions.

This saw him become just the second quarterback in league history to record a perfectĀ passer ratingĀ (158.3) while throwing for more than 400 yards. He was also the first quarterback to have a perfect passer rating and throw seven touchdowns in a single game. Although much of that came tumbling down the following season, the fact that Foles has experienced personal success throwing the ball with the franchise should provide some sort of optimism.

It will be an extremely difficult task for Philadelphia to replace Wentz, who was putting together an MVP-caliber season behind a league-best 33 touchdown passes and ranked sixth with a 101.9 passer rating. However, Foles' experience previously leading the team with his arm could bode well for the Eagles' outlook in the playoffs.
