The Philadelphia Eagles traded a longstanding franchise cornerstone in tight end Zach Ertz on Friday to the Arizona Cardinals. After losing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday and dropping to 2-4 on the season, Philly pulled the trigger on the move after it was rumored all offseason that Ertz would be traded.

Despite trading Ertz, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman doesn't think this indicates a certain path for the rest of this season, per Albert Breer.

“I don't think it says anything about our season. We're still going and trying to win every game.” Says he and Ertz talked Tuesday night about his future—”It was a hard night.”

Ertz was a three-time Pro Bowler for the Eagles and holds the record for the most receptions in a season in NFL history when he hauled in 116 back in 2018. While he isn't the Zach Ertz of even two of three years ago, there is clearly still gas left in the tank.

For some, they will take this as a sign of the Eagles starting to mail it in this year although Roseman has claimed that's not the case. Philly will now get an extended look at their other tight end, Dallas Goedert, who is in a contract year himself.

The move shouldn't be a surprise, it was rumored about all season. In fact, the surprise may have came when Ertz was still on the roster for the Eagles at the start of the season. Now, he gets a chance to join a high-powered and explosive offense in Arizona.
