The Philadelphia Eagles dealt with the injury bug at wide receiver in 2019 and thus far in training camp, it's the tight ends that are battling injuries. With the 2020 season just a few weeks away, tight end Dallas Goedert suffered a hairline fracture to his thumb, per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

The injury to Goedert is a bit unfortunate given the fact that Zach Ertz is already on the injury report. Ertz, who is Carson Wentz's top target, is dealing with an upper-body injury.

At the least, it doesn't appear that either Ertz or Goedert will miss significant time. Furthermore, it appears that Goedert could be back as soon as next week with a splint on his fractured thumb.

Goedert is entering his third season with the Eagles and is expected to see an expanded role in the offense in 2020. Even though he shares the field with Ertz, Goedert was a key contributor for Philadelphia's passing attack in 2019.

The South Dakota State product caught a career-best 58 passes for 607 yards and five touchdowns last season. Altogether, in his first two seasons, Goedert has combined for 91 catches, 941 yards, and nine touchdowns.

With Ertz and Goedert on the roster, the Eagles run plenty of 12 personnel on the offensive side of the ball. As a matter of fact, Philadelphia ran the most 12 personnel in the league last year, running it 52 percent of the time.

Despite the additions at wide receiver this offseason, the Eagles want to keep Goedert as a viable option through the air. While he sustained a fracture to his thumb, he should be ready for Philadelphia's Week 1 bout with the Washington Football Team.
