Jamal Adams requested a trade from the New York Jets and has listed eight teams as preferred landing spots. Despite being one of the teams listed, a trade to the Philadelphia Eagles seems unlikely due to their future cap situation.

Since last season, Adams has been longing for an extension from the Jets. Although, the former No. 6 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft still has two years remaining on his rookie contract. Not to mention, whichever team he's playing for can franchise tag him for another year after that.

With that being said, regardless of what team chooses to pursue Adams understands he'll want a multi-year contract in the near future. In addition to that, Adams wants to become one of the highest-paid defensive players in the NFL.

As of this moment, Adams is under contract through the 2021 season. The versatile safety is slated to carry a $9.8 million cap hit in 2021. Taking that into consideration, that could complicate the Eagles' chances of landing him via trade.

Entering the 2021 season, the Eagles are currently projected to be $50 million over the cap. Also, due to the coronavirus, the NFL could see a significant decrease in cap space next season.

Without a doubt, Eagles GM Howie Roseman has proven that he can manipulate the salary cap by restructuring deals. Therefore, you can never count out Philadelphia when it comes to acquiring a talented player in a trade.

But in reality, Philadelphia's current and future salary cap situation makes it tough for them to manufacture a deal for Adams. While fans would love to land Adams for the secondary, seeing him in an Eagles' uniform seems like a pipe dream at this point.
